Let's look at the key rules they follow.These rules ensure reliable communication between devices across the network.Every device connected to the internet needs a unique IP address to communicate.IPv4 addresses consist of four numbers, called octets, separated by dots.However, with the growing number of devices, we've introduced IPv6 addresses which are much longer.Since these numerical addresses are difficult to remember, we use the Domain Name System, or DNS.DNS translates user-friendly website names into their corresponding IP addresses.This translation happens through a hierarchy of DNS servers.When you type a website address, your computer queries these servers to find the correct IP address.This process happens automatically and usually takes just milliseconds to complete.When data is sent across the internet, it's first broken down into smaller packets.Each packet contains important information in its header, including the source and destination IP addresses.The data is split into multiple packets, each taking potentially different routes through the network.Routers act as traffic directors, determining the optimal path for each packet based on network conditions.Once all packets arrive at their destination, they are reassembled into the original data.
