These bases pair up in a specific way.Adenine always pairs with Thymine, and Guanine always pairs with Cytosine. These specific pairings are crucial for DNA stability and replication.The sequence of these base pairs forms a code, which is organized into segments called genes.Each gene contains the instructions for making a specific protein, which carries out important functions in our cells.The specific sequence of bases in a gene determines the structure and function of its protein product.During transcription, the DNA double helix begins to unwind in the nucleus.The DNA strands separate, and one strand will serve as a template for RNA synthesis.RNA polymerase attaches to the template strand and begins synthesizing a new RNA strand.As RNA polymerase moves along the template strand, it creates a complementary RNA strand, using Uracil instead of Thymine to pair with Adenine.Once transcription is complete, the messenger RNA is processed and prepared for export from the nucleus.The messenger RNA then exits the nucleus through nuclear pores, heading to the cytoplasm where protein synthesis will occur.In the cytoplasm, messenger RNA carries the genetic instructions for protein synthesis.The ribosome, consisting of two subunits, assembles on the messenger RNA at the start codon AUG.As amino acids are added, they form peptide bonds, creating a growing protein chain.This process continues until a stop codon is reached, completing the protein chain.
