Our solar system's story begins with a vast cloud of gas and dust called the solar nebula.This enormous cloud, spanning several light years, contained the building blocks of our future solar system.Under the influence of gravity, this massive cloud began to collapse inward.As the cloud collapsed, conservation of angular momentum caused it to rotate faster and faster.This rotation caused the cloud to flatten into a disk shape, much like a spinning pizza dough.As material gathered in the center of the disk, both temperature and pressure began to rise dramatically.Most of the nebula's material concentrated in the central region, setting the stage for the next phase of our solar system's formation.At the center of the disk, extreme temperatures and pressures triggered nuclear fusion.Hydrogen nuclei began to fuse together under these intense conditions.This nuclear fusion process released enormous amounts of energy, giving birth to our Sun.Meanwhile, in the surrounding disk, dust particles began to collide and stick together.These collisions formed increasingly larger masses, starting the process of planet formation.Closer to the Sun, where temperatures were higher, rocky planets formed from metal and rock.Further from the Sun, where temperatures were cooler, larger gas giants formed by accumulating vast amounts of hydrogen and helium.These processes resulted in the formation of the eight planets we know today.With the Sun and planets formed, the solar system began to take its familiar shape.As time passed, gravitational interactions between the newly formed planets began to stabilize their orbits around the sun.The complex gravitational forces between planets helped establish their current orbital paths.Solar winds from the young sun began clearing the remaining debris from the solar system.This process left us with the solar system we see today: a central sun orbited by eight major planets.Along with the major planets, our solar system includes asteroids, comets, and other small bodies, all following stable orbits determined by gravity.And that's how our solar system achieved the stable configuration we observe today.
