High in the atmosphere, we find thin, wispy cirrus clouds.In the middle atmosphere, we find altocumulus clouds, which appear as a layer of rounded masses.Closer to the ground, we find cumulus clouds, which are the familiar puffy, cotton-like clouds.Within these clouds, water droplets continue to combine and grow larger.Eventually, these droplets become too heavy to remain suspended in the air.As these heavy droplets fall, they begin the next phase of the water cycle.When water droplets in clouds become too heavy, they begin to fall as precipitation.Depending on temperature and atmospheric conditions, precipitation can fall as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.As precipitation reaches the Earth's surface, it collects in various ways.Some water soaks into the ground as groundwater, slowly moving through layers of soil and rock.Other water flows across the surface as runoff, collecting in streams and rivers.This continuous movement of water through Earth's systems is essential for all life on our planet.And so the water cycle continues, an endless journey that sustains life on Earth.
