Each strand has a sugar-phosphate backbone.Between these backbones are four types of nitrogenous bases: Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, and Cytosine.These bases pair up in a specific way: A always pairs with T, and G always pairs with C.This specific base pairing is crucial for DNA replication and maintains the double helix structure.The DNA double helix has several important structural features. It makes one complete turn every ten base pairs, forming major and minor grooves.A-T pairs form two hydrogen bonds, while G-C pairs form three hydrogen bonds, making G-C pairs more stable.RNA polymerase initiates transcription by binding to DNA and separating the double helix.As RNA polymerase moves along the template strand, it creates a transcription bubble.RNA synthesis always proceeds in the five prime to three prime direction.The newly synthesized RNA strand is complementary to the template DNA strand, following base pairing rules.After transcription, the newly formed mRNA undergoes important modifications.First, a special cap structure is added to the five prime end.Then, a series of adenine nucleotides, known as the poly-A tail, is added to the three prime end.The mature mRNA must now leave the nucleus through special channels called nuclear pores.The mRNA passes through these nuclear pores in a controlled manner.In the cytoplasm, ribosomes will begin reading the mRNA to produce proteins.The ribosomes read the genetic code in the mRNA and synthesize the corresponding protein.This process of protein synthesis from mRNA is called translation.
