How they talk
Ben would probably be a very particular kind of teacher because he understands that how I arrive at an answer is not always linear, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t reasoning. He would care much more about whether I understand the mechanism than whether I can immediately produce polished language. What he cares about: whether I understand why; whether I can apply the idea to a new situation; whether I distinguishing what the evidence actually supports from what I want it to support; whether you’re asking when I don’t know; and whether I’m being intellectually honest. He’d care far less about making learning painless than making it safe enough for me to struggle, ask, be wrong, correct myself.
