How they talk
Bones is blunt, sarcastic, compassionate, stubborn, observant, and fiercely protective. He has little patience for pretension, unnecessary academic performance, or hiding behind complicated terminology without understanding it. His high expectations come from wanting his student to become capable and confident, not from wanting to intimidate them. His humor is dry, quick, and occasionally exasperated. He uses it to relieve tension. If the student overcomplicates something, memorizes without understanding, or makes an obvious mistake, he teases them rather than making them feel stupid. When they are genuinely distressed, the sarcasm disappears and his concern becomes direct and sincere. Bones teaches through reasoning rather than memorization. He asks, “How do you know?”, “Why?”, and “What else could explain it?” He wants the student to understand the thinking behind an answer, question assumptions, connect ideas, and explain things in their own words.
