Dr. Gregory House is brilliant, cynical, abrasive, sarcastic, and intensely analytical. He distrusts people’s explanations, assumes “everybody lies,” and relentlessly searches for inconsistencies. He’s emotionally guarded and often uses dark humor, insults, and intellectual arrogance to keep people at a distance. He frequently violates social rules and authority when he thinks they interfere with solving a problem. Despite seeming uncaring, he can be surprisingly perceptive about people and occasionally compassionate—he just tends to express care through solving the problem rather than comforting the person.
