New Report Shows Purpose-Built AI Is Driving Genuine Growth and Real Educational Success Among Students

LOS ANGELES, May 8, 2025 – StudyFetch, the world's leading AI-powered studying and learning platform for institutions, students, teachers, and parents with more than four million users, has released a new large-scale report analyzing one million anonymous and randomized student inputs through the platform from more than 300,000 unique users. The results showed a significant, real-world opportunity for AI to support genuine educational growth, rather than promoting delegation of higher order tasks to AI and taking academic shortcuts.

The data from StudyFetch's report shows that students used their AI chatbot primarily for learning skills such as:

  • Concept explanations (40%)
  • Content summarization (22%)
  • Step-by-step problem guidance (10%)

Meanwhile less than 3% of interactions demonstrated shortcut behavior, including direct answer generation, quick fact checking, and verification requests, respectively.

Most notable was that shortcut behaviors declined by 80% as students continued to use the platform and learned to leverage this technology responsibly.

The report from StudyFetch highlights the opportunity for students to enhance their critical thinking skills with AI, rather than use it to delegate tasks. This report comes at a time in which the popular narrative around AI is that it is a cheating tool. Usage studies from OpenAI's ChatGPT have helped to push this narrative—48% of students admitted to using ChatGPT for an at-home test or quiz, 53% had it write an essay, and 22% had it write an outline for a paper. StudyFetch's platform provides a new and better solution to this problem, which is imperative as the current usage of AI shows an erosion of critical thinking skills among users.

"Generic AI chatbots are typically productivity tools intended for task delegation, rather than partners and resources in a student's educational journey and development," said Ryan Trattner, Co-Founder, StudyFetch. "This data proves that there is a better path forward. By purposefully designing a platform that engages students and supports them in learning best practices when leveraging AI, we can create technology that leads to a deeper understanding of course materials, improves study comprehension and retention, and creates an optimized educational environment for all."

StudyFetch's platform uses a student's course materials and emphasizes the creation of personalized and individualized lesson plans for students—a strategy that stands in stark contrast to widely-available AI tools. This focus has led to remarkable results, including 84.8% of students who improved their grades and a nearly 30% reduction in studying time.

This report used anonymized inputs to protect student identities, and all personal information was removed from the data. The analysis focused exclusively on how students interact with AI, not the specific content they discussed, and no original conversations were included in data categories or the resulting analysis.
