His real name was Ahmad ibn Al-Hussein Al-Ju'fi.Kufa was an important cultural and intellectual center in Iraq. This is where Al-Mutanabbi spent his early years.He grew up in a modest environment. His father worked as a water-carrier, a humble profession at that time.Despite his humble origins, Al-Mutanabbi received education in Kufa, where he studied Arabic language and literature.From an early age, he showed remarkable talent in language and poetry, which would later make him famous throughout the Arab world.Al-Mutanabbi excelled in poetry from a young age and would eventually become one of the greatest poets in Arabic literature.Among his early verses that demonstrate his confidence and talent is this famous line: 'I am the one whose literature even the blind can see, and whose words are heard by the deaf.'In a significant turning point in his life, Al-Mutanabbi claimed prophethood in the Samawa desert, the region between Kufa and Syria.This claim is what earned him the nickname 'Al-Mutanabbi', which means 'the one who claims to be a prophet'.He was imprisoned because of this claim.
