Welcome to the official rules of foosball! Let's start with the basic setup and scoring.A regulation foosball table features eight control rods and accommodates thirteen players per team.Let's look at how the players are distributed across the table for each team. Now, let's cover the basic scoring rules. Games are typically played to five points, with matches being best of three or five games. After each goal, there are specific serving rules that must be followed. The ball must remain in constant motion, touching at least two players before a shot can be taken. Teams have ten seconds to advance the ball between rods. One of the most important rules in foosball is the prohibition of spinning rods more than 360 degrees.A full rotation like this is illegal and results in possession going to the other team.Players must keep the ball in constant motion. You have 15 seconds maximum at the 5-bar, and 10 seconds at all other bars.If a ball stops moving between two rods, known as a dead ball, it must be retrieved and reserved through the nearest serving hole.Players are not allowed to jar, slide, or lift the table during play. These actions, along with snake shots, are forbidden in official games. When a ball leaves the table during play, possession changes based on who touched it last. However, if the ball touches the top of the sidewall, it remains in play and the game continues.Teams can call timeouts, but only when the ball is stopped or in their possession. Each timeout is limited to thirty seconds.Players must maintain good sportsmanship. Distracting opponents through noise or movement is strictly prohibited.Violations have escalating consequences. Starting with warnings, then possession changes, and in tournament play, can lead to point penalties or even game forfeiture.Understanding and following these rules ensures fair play and good sportsmanship.
